One more confident, happier you.
1Tasks — daily things you take care of.
“I do these every day to take care of myself!” Making your bed, brushing teeth, getting your backpack ready, eating breakfast, reading for 30 minutes. Usually part of the daily routine, and they earn points — not usually paid, because they're just part of being you.
2Jobs — extra help beyond your own routine.
“This isn't my own laundry… I'm helping my family!” Doing someone else's laundry, helping look after a pet, watering plants, helping make dinner. They can earn points or money — your family decides — and some jobs are a task in other families. That's okay. It can even differ inside one family: mopping the floor can be a job for a little brother and an everyday task for his big brother.
3Activities — things you do to practise, play or explore.
“I get to choose what to do! There are so many fun things!” Drawing, piano, sports, building, reading, being outside, cooking, games with a time limit. Activity sets take turns, so it isn't the same thing every day — and they help when you're not sure what to do next.
Tasks keep you on track. Jobs help your family. Activities make life fun.
1“Hmm… I finished my tasks. What should I do now?”
The moment after the list is done is where free time usually turns into the same screen as yesterday.
2“Let's check your app!”
Mom doesn't hand out an answer. The app shows his tasks, the jobs on offer, and his activities, side by side.
3“Oh! I can choose an activity from my rotation set!”
Build with LEGO, read a book, play outside, drawing time, piano practice — and a Start button.
4“This helps me try different things.”
Not just the same game every day. The set comes round so the things he chose himself all get a turn.
5“I get my tasks done, I can help my family, AND I still have time for things I enjoy!”
Tasks keep you on track. Jobs help your family. Activities make life fun and balanced.
Your family draws the lines.
Here When You Are keeps the three apart so nobody argues about which is which — but what counts as a task and what counts as a job is yours to decide. Jobs can pay points or real money, job by job, or be switched off altogether in a house where helping out is simply part of family life. Activities can be switched off too, if free time is theirs to fill.
