A story · goals and skills

It's just a checklist… but what's the point?

Tasks get done, but it doesn't feel like progress.

A nine-panel comic. Before: a boy faces the same six-task list every day, ticks it all off and feels nothing, doesn't understand what 'good habits for the future' means, and lies awake wondering if he'll always need reminding. After: the same tasks sit under Today, Goals and Skills — teeth brushing builds independence, reading grows imagination, piano builds focus; his goals show 32 of 100 books and 3 of 10 songs; a signpost on a woodland path says do it today, keep going, it gets easier, I can do it; and he beams: I can do more by myself.

Before

It's just a checklist… but what's the point?

  1. 1“Do I really have to do this again?”

Brush teeth, get dressed, breakfast, backpack, reading, piano. It's just the same stuff every day — a never-ending list of things to do.

  2. 2“I'm doing it… but nothing really changes.”

Six ticks. Tasks get checked off, but it doesn't feel like it meant anything.

  3. 3“You need to build good habits for the future!”

“What do you mean? I already brush my teeth…” It's hard to see the bigger picture from inside a Tuesday.

  4. 4“Will I always need someone to remind me?”

Lying awake with it. It's easy to lose heart when progress isn't something you can see.

After

The same tasks… with a bigger purpose. Small steps today. Big possibilities tomorrow.

  1. 1Same tasks, but now I can see why they matter.

Today · Goals · Skills. The same six things, and each one points somewhere.

  2. 2From small steps…

Skills: teeth brushing builds independence; reading grows your imagination; piano builds focus. Big skills, broken into small doable steps.

  3. 3…to real progress.

My goals: get ready for school on my own. Read 100 books — 32 so far. Play 10 piano songs — 3 down. Each step moves it forward, and you can see it move.

  4. 4Good habits grow here.

Do it today. Keep going. It gets easier. I can do it. Doing it again isn't the same list — it's the path.

  5. 5A more independent tomorrow.

“I'm getting better at this! I can do more by myself!” More confidence. More independence. Ready for what's next.

Small steps. Brighter tomorrows.

A tick on its own is just a tick. On Here When You Are an everyday task can sit under a skill it is building and a goal it is moving — so “brush your teeth” is also “getting ready by myself”, and “read 20 minutes” is book 33 of 100. The list doesn't change. What it adds up to becomes something a child can see. More than a calendar: a foundation for real life.

Everyday routines.
A brighter future.
